Plants to 1.5 m, much branched, glabrous or nearly so; stipules minute, caducous; petioles 5–10 mm; lfls oblanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, 2–4 cm × 8–15 mm; racemes solitary or few, erect, 2–5 dm; bracts 5 mm, caducous; pedicels 3–6 mm; fls white, 12–18 mm; cal 7 mm; pods erect, cylindric, brown, 2–3 cm × 6–8 mm; stipe scarcely exceeding the cal. Dry, sandy woods; Va. (Delmarva Penins.) to Ga., w. Fla., Ala., and e. Tenn. May.
