Small shrub or straggling perennial herb 30-120 cm tall; stems densely spreading glandular-pubescent and with few to numerous pale buff or greyish long-armed stellate hairs, often with two opposite lines of short retrorse eglandular hairs. Leaves broadly ovate, deltate or reniform, 0.9-5.2 x 1-4 cm, base truncate, rounded or shallowly cordate, apex rounded to shortly attenuate, surfaces with dense pale greyish long-armed stellate hairs throughout, with spreading glandular hairs numerous at least along margins; lateral veins 2-4 pairs; petiole 5-30 mm long. Inflorescence axillary, flowers solitary or in contracted 2-3-flowered unilateral cymes; primary peduncle 0-5 mm long, secondary peduncles if present 2-5 mm long; bracteoles linear or narrowly oblanceolate, pairs unequal in length, the longer 2-10(15.5) x 0.3-2 mm, margin entire or minutely toothed, apex apiculate or spinulose; pedicels 0-2.5 mm long. Calyx dark blue, purple or green at first, with darker reticulate venation, soon turning pale brown-or whitish-scarious; outer lobes subequal, lanceolate, narrowly oblong or rarely (obovate-)elliptic, anterior lobe 5-10(15) x 2-4(8) mm, posterior lobe 6-12(17.5) mm long, base acute or attenuate, margin and apex irregularly denticulate, teeth sometimes elongate, apiculate with a long-armed stellate bristle at tip, more rarely subentire, apex obtuse, acute or truncate in outline, surfaces with rather sparse long-armed stellate hairs most numerous along veins and towards base and with scattered spreading glandular hairs; lateral lobes ovate or lanceolate, 3-6.5(8) mm long. Corolla 32-54 mm long, blue or mauve to almost white, mixed retrorse-pubescent and glandular-pubescent externally; tube 25-42 mm long, cylindrical; limb in weak 2+3 arrangement; abaxial and lateral lobes 6.5-11 x 5.5-10 mm; adaxial lobes 5-7.5(9.5) x 4-6(7.5) mm. Stamens attached in distal third of corolla tube; filaments 10.5-15.5 mm long; anthers 3-4.2 mm long; lateral staminodes 1.2-2.3 mm long, pilose, antherodes to 0.6 mm long or obsolete. Ovary with a dense apical tuft of pale crisped hairs; style glabrous; stigma linear or clavate, 0.6-1 mm long. Capsule 11.5-16 mm long, glabrous. Seeds 3.8-5 x 3.8-4.5 mm.
