Shrub or woody perennial herb 10-300 cm tall, erect or scrambling; stems with fine white antrorse-appressed or tomentellous hairs, often dense when young, sometimes with numerous short spreading glandular hairs, later glabrescent. Leaf buds densely cream-to silvery-hairy. Leaves ovate, ovate-elliptic or lanceolate, 2-15 x 0.8-5.6 cm, base attenuate, often with a winglike extension along petiole, apex acute to rounded, surfaces with numerous fine white antrorse or crisped hairs at first, soon (rarely tardily) glabrescent except along margin and midrib; lateral veins 4-6 pairs; petiole 0-26 mm. Inflorescence axillary but sometimes crowded towards branch apex, 1-3-flowered, sessile or peduncle to 2.5 mm long; bracts foliaceous, reducing upwards; bracteoles oblanceolate or obovate(-elliptic), 8-28 x 2-9.5 mm, indumentum as leaves, often with short glandular hairs along margin or more widespread above and/or with long-pilose hairs along margin of proximal half; flowers sessile. Calyx somewhat accrescent; anterior lobe (oblong-)elliptic, 6-13.5 x 2.5-9 mm, base acute or attenuate, apex with two acute lobes (1) 2-6 mm long, surface with fine white antrorse or tomentellous hairs throughout or restricted to margin and two principal veins, often with short glandular hairs along margin, venation palmate, prominent in fruit; posterior lobe oblong-elliptic or oblong-lanceolate, 8.5-18.5 x 3-12 mm, apex acute to rounded; lateral lobes lanceolate, 4-7.5 (9) mm long. Corolla 27-43 mm long, blue to mauve with paler throat or whitish throughout, pubescent mainly on lateral lobes externally with mixed glandular and eglandular hairs, rarely only the latter; tube 9.5-17 mm long, cylindrical towards base, campanulate towards mouth; limb in 4+1 arrangement; abaxial lobe (10)14-23 x 8-16 mm, offset by (2) 4.5-8(10.5) mm; lateral lobes (10)12.5-21 x 7-17 mm; adaxial lobes as laterals but 5.5-12.5 mm wide. Stamens attached 2.5-6 mm from base of corolla; filaments 19.5-28.5 mm; anthers 3.5-5.5 mm; lateral staminodes 0.5-2 mm. Ovary glabrous; stigma 1.8-4 mm long. Capsule 14-17 mm long, glabrous. Seeds 6-7.5 x 4.5-6.5 mm.
