Trailing or scandent subshrub, branches 15-350 cm long; stems buff-or yellowish-strigulose, usually with shorter ± retrorse hairs when young. Leaves often somewhat anisophyllous, (ovate-)elliptic or somewhat obovate, 1.7-7.3 x 0.7-3 cm, base attenuate, apex subattenuate to obtuse or rounded, ± apiculate, surfaces strigose, hairs most numerous on margin and veins beneath; lateral veins 4-6 pairs; petiole 4-11 mm long. Inflorescence axillary, flowers solitary or in a 2-3-flowered contracted unilateral cyme; peduncle to 2.5 mm long; bracteoles linear or oblanceolate, 1.5-10(17) x 0.2-1.5 (3) mm, not spiny, entire; pedicels 0.5-5 mm long. Calyx initially green(-brown), soon turning glossy brown, accrescent; anterior lobe broadly ovate, (8.5)15-23 x (5.5) 9-14 mm in flower, up to 30 x 23 mm in fruit, base rounded or cordate, apex acute-or obtuse-apiculate, rarely emarginate, margin (sub)entire, veins and margin sparsely strigulose particularly towards base, hairs along margin sometimes with swollen base; posterior lobe as anterior but (10)17-29 mm long in flower, to 35 mm in fruit, apex acute-apiculate; lateral lobes lanceolate, 4-7 mm long in flower. Corolla (33) 38-61 mm long, bright red to rose-pink, glandular-and eglandular-pilose or sparsely so externally; tube (22) 26-38 mm long, campanulate above attachment point of stamens; limb in 4+1 arrangement; abaxial lobe (10)15-21 x 9-17 mm, offset by (3) 4.5-9.5 mm; lateral lobes (9)12-17 x 8-14 mm; adaxial lobes (8)11-15.5 x 5.5-10.5 mm. Stamens attached ± midway along corolla tube; filaments (14)16-22 mm long; anthers 2.5-3.5 mm long; lateral staminodes 1-3 mm long, pilose, antherodes 0.5-1.2 mm long. Ovary glabrous; stigma subcapitate, 0.4-0.7 mm long. Capsule 15-19 mm long, glabrous. Seeds 3.8-5 mm long and wide.
