Leaf-lamina 1·5–10 × 0·5–2(4·5) cm., elliptic to lanceolate, obtuse or acute at the apex, margin ± conspicuously serrate, the teeth up to 1 mm. deep, mucronate, acute at the base; petiole 1–4(6–12) mm. long.
Cymes 1–2-flowered; peduncles 1–5 cm. long; bracteoles 1·5–3 mm. long, filiform; inflorescence tendrils up to 6 cm. long, slender.
False stipules asymmetrical, (0·5)1–4 cm., acute at both extremities, ± serrate at the margin.
Stamens 5, with the filaments 1·5–2·5 mm. long and the anthers 0·75–1 mm. long.
Erect, perennial, glabrous herb up to 70 cm. high, with a woody rootstock.
Sepals 5, the inner ones ± petaloid, 4–5·5 mm. long, obtuse at the apex.
Outer corona with the tube c. 2 mm. high and the threads 1–1·75 mm.
Ovary 0·75–1·25 mm. long; styles 3(4), 0·75–1·25 mm. long, free.
Flowers pale yellow with stipe 2–5 mm. long.
Inner corona 0·75–1 mm. high, cup-shaped.
Axillary tendrils up to 8 cm. long.
Capsule 1·5–2 cm. long, 1–3-seeded.
