Characteristics

Leaves 3–12(19) × 1·5–6(13) cm., simple, oblong to broadly ovate or obovate or subcircular, obtuse to acute at the apex, entire-margined, acute at the base, stiffly coriaceous, glabrous on the upper surface, densely white-papillate or shortly hairy along the veins beneath; midrib impressed above, prominent (and sometimes hairy especially at base) on the lower surface; lateral nerves and vein-reticulation also prominent.

Cymes 1–5-flowered, sessile or with peduncle up to 1·5 cm. long, the flowers greenish-white, glabrous or sparsely papillate or hairy, with stipe 7–13(15) mm. long; bracteoles 2–5 mm. long.
Perennial producing 1 or a few prostrate shoots up to 10 cm. long from a woody rootstock.
Capsule 1–1·5 cm. long, purplish-green, oblong-globose or ellipsoid, 2–3-seeded.
Outer corona with tube 1–1·75 mm. high and threads (1·5)2–3·5 mm. long.
Stamens 5–6, with filaments 2·5–4 mm. long and anthers 1–1·5 mm. long.
Stipules 3–8 mm. long, linear, sometimes ± spathulate or dissected.
Ovary c. 1 mm. long; styles 3–4, (2)3–6 mm. long, free.
Inner corona 1–2 mm. high, cup-shaped.
Hypanthium 1–2 × 2–3 mm., cup-shaped.
Seeds 6–7 mm. long, subreniform.
Sepals 5·5–9 mm. long, ± obtuse.
