Cymes 1–2-flowered, the flowers cream-coloured, with stipe 2–4 mm. long; peduncle 2·5–15 mm. long; bracteoles 3–7 mm. long.
Stem up to 50 cm. high, erect, simple or sometimes branched at the base, terete, fleshy and smooth.
Sepals 7–15 mm. long, acute, the outer ones with 2 prominent submarginal nerves.
Ovary 1·5–2 mm. long; styles 2·5–6 mm. long, connate at the base for 1–3·5 mm.
Persistent cotyledons 2–2·25 × 1–1·5 cm., with a petiole 1–1·25 cm. long.
Stamens 5, the filaments 4–5 mm. long, the anthers 2–2·25 mm. long.
Outer corona with tube 1–1·5 mm. high and threads 2·5–3·5 mm.
Inner corona 0·5–0·75 mm. high, cup-shaped.
Capsule 1·5–1·75 cm. long, 1–4-seeded.
Annual or biennial glabrous herb.
Petals 5–7 mm. long, ± acute.
Hypanthium 2·5–4 mm. wide.
False stipules absent.
Stipules 3–6 mm. long.
Seeds 7–8 mm. long.
Tendrils absent.
