Shrub up to ± 3 m. high, glabrous except for stamens and ovary.. Leaves mostly 1–4.5 cm. long and 1.5–4 cm. wide, bilobed to four-fifths way down or more, sometimes even to base; each lobe rounded at apex; at bottom of sinus a flattened or boat-shaped scale-like projection 2–4 mm. long.. Flowers solitary.. Flower-buds: upper part (i.e. sepals) narrowly ovate to lanceolate in outline, 1.3–1.7 cm. long before anthesis.. Hypanthium 3–4 mm. long, smooth.. Petals yellow, obovate, 2.5–3.7 cm. long, 1.2–2.1 cm. wide, neither clawed at base nor crisped on margins.. Fertile stamens 10.. Stigma ± 3 mm. in diameter, terminal, rounded, peltate, abruptly enlarged.. Pods thinly woody, dehiscent, length uncertain, 1.3–1.5 cm. wide.. Seeds deep brown, ± irregularly elliptic to obovate-elliptic, 7–8 mm. long, 6–7 mm. wide; funicle short.
