Leaves subcoriaceous or coriaceous, glabrous, drying dull brown above, paler beneath; petiole, 0.6–1.2 cm long; lamina 6.0–21.5 x 2.5–8.0 cm, oblong-elliptic to elliptic or obovate, obtuse or shortly acuminate at the apex, cuneate to rounded at the base; midrib flat above, strongly prominent below, lateral nerves in 8–14 pairs, tertiary nerves forming a fine reticulum visible on both surfaces but prominent below.
Flowers reddish or greenish-brown, 1.5–2.5 mm long and 3–4 mm in diameter at anthesis; pedicels up to 1.5 mm long; receptacle ± two-thirds the length of the flower, cup-shaped, puberulous within; tepals ± one-third the length of the flower, rounded-ovate, obtuse at the incurved apex, puberulous inside and outside.
A shrub or small tree up to 12(15) m high; bole 20–30 cm in diameter; bark greyish, rough; young branches brownish, drying blackish, angular, smooth, puberulous to glabrous; buds fulvous appressed-pubescent.

Cultivation

Trees can be grown from seeds. Seeds can be sown in pots then transplanted or planted directly where they are to grow. After fruit have fallen the outer layer can be allowed to rot off by putting the fruit in heaps then the tough seed case cracked to allow the seed to germinate. Seed can be stored for a year if left in the seed case and stored in a cool ventilated place.
