Characteristics

Shrubs, deciduous, 1-2 m tall. Branches terete, glabrous; shoots pale gray, sulcate; spines 3-fid, pale yellow, 1-2.5 cm. Leaves subsessile; leaf blade abaxially pale green, adaxially dark green, oblanceolate or elliptic, 0.7-2.1 cm × 3-8 mm, papery, abaxially not pruinose, adaxially glabrous, both surfaces with conspicuous reticulate veins, base attenuate, margin entire or 1-4-spinose-serrate on each side, apex acute. Flowers 3-or 4-fascicled. Pedicels 1-2 mm or 1-1.5 cm, slender, glabrous. Sepals in 3 whorls; outer sepals lanceolate-oblong, ca. 3 × 1 mm; median sepals elliptic, ca. 4 × 2 mm; inner sepals oblong-elliptic or obovate-oblong, 5.5-6 × 2.5-2.7 mm. Petals elliptic, base cuneate, with separate glands, apex acute, incised with acute lobes. Stamens ca. 2.5 mm; anther connective prolonged, rounded. Ovules (2 or)3, very shortly funiculate. Fruit unknown. Fl. Jun-Jul, fr. Aug-Oct.
