Characteristics

Small tree; branches slightly angular, covered with dense adpressed straw-coloured hairs.. Leaf-blades oblong-elliptic, 15–22.5 cm. long and 5–7.6 cm. wide, apex acute, base cuneate, rounded or subcordate, with 9–14 pairs of lateral nerves, glabrous except for the margins above and beneath and the nerves beneath; petioles 2–6 mm. long, glabrous above, covered with adpressed hairs beneath; stipules ovate-lanceolate to triangular, 12–18 mm. long and 4–8.5 mm. wide at base, connate for up to 3 mm. above the node, apex acute, covered with adpressed hairs outside.. Flowers sessile in 3–12-flowered cymes subsessile in dense spikes 3–4.5(–11.5) cm. long; internodes ± 6–10 mm. long; peduncle 2–3.5(–10) cm. long, densely adpressed hirsute; bracteoles deltoid, 0.7–1 mm. long and 0.4–0.8 mm. wide, acuminate, adpressed hirsute outside.. Calyx densely adpressed hirsute; tube suborbicular to cylindrical, 1.75–2.25 mm. long and 1.25–2 mm. wide; limb 0.5–2.25 mm. long, only slightly wider than the tube, with 5 irregular crenulations ± 0.3 mm. long and 1 mm. wide, apex obtuse or with ± subulate lobes from a triangular base, 0.75 mm. long.. Corolla white; tube 1.1–1.3 cm. long, widening 9–10 mm. above the base, ±1.5 mm. wide at base, 3 mm. wide at top, covered with yellowish to greyish adpressed hairs outside and inside with short hairs restricted to the throat; lobes narrowly ovate, 4.75–5 mm. long, ±1.5 mm. wide; acumen very long with inturned edges, glabrous or with a few adpressed hairs towards the base outside.. Anthers 3.25 mm. long, apex 1 mm. long.. Disc annular, exceeding the calyx-limb.. Style 1 cm. long; stigma 6 mm. long.. Infructescences up to 9–13 cm. long; peduncle up to 6 cm. long; pedicels thick, 2–3 mm. long..
