Characteristics

Habit: woody twiner, glabrous. Adult leaves narrowly elliptic, 40–52 mm long, 4–6 mm wide; margins sinuate, slightly recurving; petioles sheathing. Inflorescences single or paired pendent flowers; stalks 10–14 mm long, slender, nodding, almost glabrous. Sepals 4–5 mm long, 1.5 mm wide, ovate, margins sparse ciliate.Petals 17–19 mm long, 2–2.8 mm wide, throat longer than blade, briefly cohering only, apical margins hairy; canary yellow becoming pink-red from throat with sex phase changes. Stamens free, filaments longer than anthers, white, tapering to a wider base: anthers ovoid; pollen mauve. Pistil silky hairy without a basal nectary; style short, stout; stigma bifid. Fruit seen immature, bilocular, berry-like with seeds in separate dry cells, oblong. Mature seeds not seen. Flowering in summer.
