Characteristics

Erect, straggling or procumbent perennial or shrubby (rarely annual) herb; stems up to 75 cm long, glabrous to finely sericeous, pubescent or pilose. Leaves usually not greyish beneath, subequal or smaller pair down to 1/3 of larger, glabrous to sparsely puberulous (rarely with scattered long shiny hairs), scabrid on margins; lamina linear-lanceolate to narrowly ovate or narrowly elliptic, largest 5-12.5 x 0.3-2 cm; margin toothed in basal half (rarely some entire). Heads usually along most of the stems, more rarely on upper part only, subsessile (rarely with peduncle up to 3 cm long); axes glabrous to puberulous or finely sericeous; floral leaves and outer bracts lanceolate to narrowly ovate or narrowly elliptic, up to 6.5 cm long, finely sericeous or sparsely so (rarely subglabrous); inner bracts lanceolate to narrowly obovate, up to 2.5 cm long. Sepals sericeous, densest towards tip and hairs longer here and on both sides, hairs straight; dorsal 16-25 mm long, elliptic-obovate, tapering gradually to the acuminate to cuspidate tip, no lateral teeth; ventral 14-23 mm long, similar, with 2 acuminate to cuspidate teeth 1-3 mm long, no lateral teeth; lateral 11-20 mm long. Corolla pale blue to blue or mauve, (17-)20-31 mm long of which the tube 4-8 mm; limb (6-)7-14 mm wide, obovate, distinctly 3-lobed; callus not ribbed apically. Filaments (3-)5-10 mm long, glabrous; appendage 1-2 mm long, broadly rounded, slightly curved; anthers (3-)4-6.5 mm long. Capsule ± 10 mm long; seed not seen.
