Characteristics

Plants 250-500 mm high, sometimes forming clumps. Rhizome compact and corm-like, ± 10 mm diam. Stem formed by basal internode only, subterete, 1-2 mm diam., with fine stomatiferous furrows. Foliage leaves 1 to 4 in a basal tuft, ± as long as flowering stem, resembling stem. Rhipidia erect, 2 to 6 in a narrow, shortly pedunculate head, often appearing lateral on stem, subtended by erect, terete, leaf-like bract, often greatly extended, stiff or flexible, appearing as a continuation of stem, green; pedicels puberulent distally; rhipidial bracts and spathes firm-textured, bracts and outer spathe lanceolate, 10-16 mm long, dull green or flushed purplish, inner 18-30 mm long, green. Flowers yellow; tepals free, elliptic, outer 16-23 x 6-9 mm, inner slightly smaller. Filaments 3-4 mm long; anthers ± 6 mm long. Ovary shortly exserted, smooth; style 2-3 mm long, branches 4-5 mm long. Capsules exserted, obovoid to subglobose, trilobed, smooth, 5-8 mm long, brown.

Flowering time July-Apr. Capsule broadly obovoid to nearly globose, smooth.
