Characteristics

Shrub or small tree with a short bole, up to 7 m. tall; bark mottled yellowish grey, peeling in small papery flakes.. Leaves up to 18 cm. long, pilose-pubescent with stiff erect hairs ± 0.4 mm. long; petiole 4–16 mm. long; leaflets 13–25, opposite or alternate, almost sessile, oblong, rounded at base and apex, crenate, up to 18 mm. × 10 mm. near the middle of the leaf, rather smaller above, much smaller below, the lowest sometimes only 2 mm. long.. Flowers pink, pubescent, in few-flowered pubescent panicles 2–5 cm. long; pedicels 3–8 mm. long.. Calyx ± 1.5 mm. long with broad blunt lobes.. Petals elliptic, 4–6 mm. long, 1.5 mm. wide.. Filaments densely pilose, ± 3 mm. long, tapering gradually from the base; anthers 1.5 mm. long.. Fruit grey-green, sparsely pubescent, ± 20 mm. long × 9 mm. wide; nutlets with apical, lateral and basal spines.. Fig. 2/2–10.
