Characteristics

Epiphytic orchids with short stems, sparsely branched. Stems short, thick, fibrous. Leaves crowded, distichous, fleshy, arranged in two ranks. Racemes relatively long, arching to pendulous, multiflowered. Flowers resupinate, small, short-lived, opening in small groups. Sepals and petals of similar shape and size. Dorsal sepal free. Bases of lateral sepals fused to column foot. Petals free, smaller than sepals. Labellum hinged to apex of column foot, hanging. Labellum lamina 3-lobed, fleshy; lateral lobes large, erect; midlobe small. Column relatively long, with short basal foot. Pollinia 2, deeply divided at base, hard, waxy, orange, attached via long narrow stipe to small viscidium. [See also Du Puy et al. (1993: 526)]
