Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 10 m high. Stipules linear-oblong to lanceolate, 2.5–5.5 mm long, entire. Leaves: petiole 6–9 mm long, rounded on top, black and tessellated; lamina elliptic to obovate, up to 230 mm long and 90 mm wide, base cuneate to rounded, margin entire, slightly sinuate, with distinct marginal vein, tip shortly acuminate to obtuse, venation comprising 10–13 lateral veins per side of midrib and reticulate interlaterals, lower surface with scattered indumentum mainly on veins. Sepals lanceolate to ovate to triangular, 1–1.5 mm long, 0.7–1 mm wide, glabrous. Petals irregularly spathulate to suborbicular with the tip crenate, 0.4–0.5 mm long, 0.3–0.5 mm wide. Disc 1–1.6 mm diam. Fruits 5–12 per glomerule; each fruit 1-seeded, ellipsoid, 5–10 mm long, 3–6 mm wide, pinkish green when immature, red to purple-black when fully ripe.
