Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 6 m high. Stipules linear, 1–1.5 mm long, entire. Leaves: petiole 2–5 mm long, grooved on top, same colour as lamina; lamina elliptic, oblanceolate, obovate or rarely suborbicular, up to 100 mm long and 45 mm wide, base cuneate to rounded, margin entire to weakly dentate, without distinct marginal vein, tip acute to rounded, venation comprising 10 or 11 lateral veins per side of midrib and reticulate interlaterals, lower surface with scattered indumentum mainly on veins. Sepals lanceolate, 1.5–2 mm long, 0.8–1 mm wide. Petals irregularly spathulate with the tip crenate, 0.5–0.8 mm long, 0.5–0.8 mm wide. Disc c. 1.5 mm diam. Fruits 1 or 2 per glomerule; each fruit 2-seeded, globose, 3–7 mm long, 3–7 mm wide, red when immature, black or purple-black when fully ripe.
