Plants forming small, congested clumps. Pseudobulbs crowded, 10–30 × 15–20 mm, deeply grooved with conspicuous wrinkled ridges, pale green to yellowish. Leaves oblong, 60–100 × 8–12 mm, stiff, pale green to yellowish. Racemes slender, arching or pendulous, 150–250 mm long, 3–12-flowered, flowers usually arranged on 1 side of raceme (secund). Flowers 15–20 × 10–15 mm, usually pale green to dark green, occasionally brownish, pinkish or reddish with paler margins, labellum dark reddish purple. Dorsal sepal hooded, 6–8 × 3 mm. Lateral sepals spreading or incurved, 15–20 × 3–4 mm. Petals curved beside column, c. 3 × 2 mm. Labellum narrowly ovate, c. 4 × 2 mm, fleshy, slightly curved.
Widespread, disjunct and sometimes locally common in hilly and mountainous regions inland from the coast; found growing on trees in drier humid forests and scrub, but also in open forest and rainforest where there is strong air movement. Can often be found among other orchids and lichens on boulders, rocky embankments and cliff faces, usually in semi-shade, but sometimes in exposed situations.
