Characteristics

Rhizomes thin, creeping, branched, forming strands or sparse clumps. Pseudobulbs widely spaced, 14–18 × 10–15 mm, flattened, grooved, dark green, reddish or purple. Leaves 40–70 × 15–20 mm, tough, dark green. Flower stems thread-like, 20–30 mm long, apex curved, 1-flowered. Flowers horizontal, 7–10 × 15–20 mm, red, brown, green or yellowish with red lines. Dorsal sepal 6–8 × 3–4 mm. Lateral sepals 8–10 × 3–4 mm. Petals 2–2.5 × 1–1.5 mm, with dark apical blotch. Labellum 6–8 × 1.5 mm, fleshy, base dark red, apex yellow.

Locally common; growing on trees in rainforest, also on shrubs, trees and boulders in open forest at high altitudes in situations of good air movement and bright light; colonises shrubs and plants in parks and gardens and relict trees left in paddocks.
