Characteristics

An orchid. A robust herb that grows attached to other plants. It has false bulbs 2-10 cm apart on a woody underground stem or rhizome. There are 2-3 leaves that vary in size. They are 4-10 cm long by 1-3 cm wide. The flowers are green or yellow green with purple-brown marks.

Pseudobulbs set 2–10 cm apart on a woody rhizome, 2–3(4)-leaved, 4–10 × 1–3 cm, very variable in size and shape, but usually ovoid or oblong, 4–5-angled, sometimes with knobs.
Inflorescence 15–90 cm long, several to many-flowered. Rhachis flattened, 1–5 cm wide, sometimes leaf-like and yellow, straight or undulate, the edge entire or crenate.
Flowers distichous, set slightly off-centre from the median line, only a few open at a time, green or yellow-green with purple-brown marks.
Dorsal sepal 5–8 × 1–2 mm, ovate-lanceolate, acute, concave; lateral sepals 4–6 × 2–3.5 mm, slightly recurved, ovate.
Leaves 4 × 20 × 1.5–5.5 cm, oblong, obtuse, emarginate, coriaceous, thick.
Rhachis and flowers green, spotted purple, or entirely purple or red.
Column 1.5–2.2 mm long, including stelidia 0.2 mm long.
Lip recurved, up to 3 × 1.5 mm, ovate-oblong, fleshy.
Petals 2–3 × c. 0.5 mm, lanceolate.
Bracts c. 4 mm long, reflexed.
Pedicel and ovary 2–5 mm long.
