Characteristics

Clumps sparse, pendulous, attached by roots from basal nodes. Stems sparsely branched, 100–300 mm long, with greyish bracts. Pseudobulbs well-spaced, 5–8 × 3–4 mm, yellow-green to dark green. Leaves sessile, extremely variable in size (30–100 × 15–25 mm), shape (from narrow and much longer than wide, to nearly as wide as long), and colour (yellowish green to pale green or dark green), thin-textured to fleshy, with a broad, shallow groove, to deeply grooved. Flowers in clusters of up to 10; stems 3–4 mm long; flowers 4–7 × 2–3 mm, not opening widely, red or orange with cream or white base, waxy. Sepals and petals fleshy. Dorsal sepal 4–7 × 1–2 mm. Lateral sepals 4–7 × 1–2 mm. Petals c. 2 × 1.5 mm. Labellum red to reddish brown, c. 2 × 1 mm, curved, margins hairy.

Environment

Widespread and common from near the coast to high in ranges and tablelands; grows on shrubs and trees in rainforest, along stream banks, in swamps and on relict trees in cleared paddocks; also occurs on boulders and cliff faces at high altitudes, mostly in shade or filtered light, sometimes exposed to sun.
