Characteristics

Rhizome apparently simple; roots (where known) fibrous. Leaves 20-35 cm long, ±rigid, striate; lamina 2-4 mm wide, with 5-10 abaxially thickened, ±contiguous nerves, complicate or channelled, ±pungent; margins thickened, smooth; sheath with hyaline margins, at length breaking into long fibres. Inflorescence to c. 45 cm tall; axis slender, branched; lowest bracts to c. 7 cm long; clusters ?less than 4-flowered, subtended by ovate-lanceolate, acuminate bracts to c. 3 mm long; pedicels ±slender, to c. 3 mm long. Perianth segments 2-5 mm long, ±greenish abaxially. Stamens less than 3 mm long; anthers less than 1 mm long; filaments tapered, whitish. Ovary globose; style slender, slightly exceeding stamens. Capsule and seed unknown.
