Leaf fully developed at flowering, 30–50 × 5–8 mm. Flower stem 300–600 mm tall, wiry, stem bracts prominent, 1–15-flowered. Flowers lasting 2–4 days, 35–45 × 22–28 mm; sepals and petals golden bronze; labellum with coarse, coppery red or yellowish papillae. Dorsal sepal incurved, 15–18 × 9–12 mm. Lateral sepals divergent, 15–18 × 5–7 mm. Petals incurved, 8–10 × 8 mm. Labellum flat in profile, 35–40 × 8–10 mm, ovate in outline; basal part with short, thin, red papillae; central part with coarse papillae to 11 mm long; apical part with flat, sinuous, glandular tail to 22 mm long; labellum margins with numerous linear, glandular and eglandular lobes to 8 mm long. Column 6–7 × 4 mm, with 2 purple sham eyes, without connecting ridge.
Localised and disjunct; usually found growing among low heathy shrubs in moist to wet sandy soil in coastal heathland and on hummocks among sedges in swamps; less commonly among shrubs in seepage areas in open sites in mountain ranges (e.g. McPherson Range, Amosfield).
