Whole plant strongly pruinose. Leaf fully developed at flowering, 100–400 × 5–12 mm. Flower stem 150–600 mm tall, 1–7-flowered. Flowers often not opening widely, 20–26 × 10–12 mm; sepals and petals greenish to greenish yellow or brownish with red stripes; labellum papillae reddish-purple. Dorsal sepal porrect, 9–13 × 5.5–7 mm, concave, incurved over column. Lateral sepals divergent, 9–13 × 4–5 mm, apex shortly acuminate. Petals porrect, 4–6 × 2.5–3.5 mm, usually incurved. Labellum flat in profile, 14–18 × 6–7 mm, narrowly ovate-lanceolate in outline; basal part with short papillae; central part with papillae to 5 mm long, larger ones forming marginal row; apical part with glandular tail 2–4 × 0.7 mm; labellum margins with numerous glandular and eglandular lobes to 3 mm long. Column 5–6 × 3 mm, base with 2 purple sham eyes, connected by prominent red ridge.
Highly localised in a narrow coastal band; growing among dense vegetation in moist to wet swamps, seepage areas and drainage lines; also in moss pockets on granite rocks and colonising wet road verges and ditches. Often grows in dense habitats where it is difficult to see.
