Characteristics

Many-stemmed, rather scandent shrub to 4 m, sometimes developing a short bole; stems virgate, bark reddish-grey, finally flaking.. Leaves variable, elliptic or obovate to oblanceolate-oblong, 3–13.5 cm long, 1.5–4.5 cm wide, rounded, margins slightly to very undulate, base narrowed to a petiole 5–10 mm long.. Flowering towards the tips of the young growth, inflorescences terminal or from the upper leaf axils, conical, composed of cymose clusters along a short axis up to 6 cm long; pedicels 4–5 mm long.. Sepals 3–5 mm long; petals 5(–11), subequal, yellow or yellowish-green, ovate, 5–8 mm long; stamens many, about as long as the petals, filaments yellow; style equalling the stamens, not exserted from the flower; stigma peltate, lobed, 0.8–1.2 mm wide.. Capsule golden-brown, 5–7 mm high, 6-valved; seeds globose-cordate, 3.5–4.5 mm long.. Fig. 6/1–4 (p. 35).
