Perennial; stems 3–7 dm; lvs thin, lance-linear to lance-ovate, 2–8 cm, sharply and coarsely toothed, narrowed at base to a short petiole or nearly sessile; infl widely branched, many-fld; bracts linear or subulate; fls drooping on slender pedicels; sep lance-triangular, 1.5–3 mm; cor pale blue, 6–8 mm; style exsert 3–5 mm; fr opening near the base; 2n=34. Rocky woods in the mts., chiefly at low elev.; w. Md. and e. Ky. to Ga. and Ala. July–Sept. (C. flexuosa)
