Characteristics

Plants to 5 cm high, usually 1-3 cm, yellowish green, in tufts. Stems tomentose below, erect. Leaves 5 mm long, lanceolate, ending in a more or less elongate chanelled point, serrulate at the extreme apex or smooth. Costa filling of the leaf width, narrowed at base, wider above, excurrent, in transverse section with large ventral hyalocysts covering more than half of the transverse section, and dorsal groups of stereids or even small groups of stereids, ridged at back in the upper part of the leaf, smooth below. Alar cells not or slightly differentiated, hyaline. Basal laminal cells thin-walled, rectangular, 10-16 x 26-54 µm, in several rows narrower at margins. Upper laminal cells short rectangular to oval, 3-10 x 10-19 µm, incrassate. Seta 7-8 mm long, yellowish to brownish. Capsule 1.5 mm long, erect, symmetric, cylindric, furrowed when dry or empty. Operculum long-rostrate. Calyptra ciliate at base or not.
