Characteristics

Woody climber with twining stem up to 5 m long. Leaflets narrowly oblong-elliptic, 50-95 x 20-45 mm, subglabrous, becoming thinly coriaceous, shiny; petiole 30-65 mm long; stipules ovate, 2-3 mm long. Peduncles nodulose, 6.5-19 cm long, with 8-16 flowers, flowers 20-30 mm long; bracteoles ± 1 x ± 1 mm. Calyx glabrous to sparsely hairy, upper lip 12-18 mm long, very large, 2-toothed, lobes large and rounded, folded at the margins; lower lip 8-10 mm long, lobes entirely fused. Corolla purple or rose-pink; standard broadly ovate, 1825 x 14-22 mm, claw 5-9 mm long; wings obovate, shortly-eared near the base, 15-18 x 4-5 mm, claw 5-9 mm long; keel almost as long as and broader than the wings, eared at the base, 1517 x 5-7 mm, claw 5-9 mm long. Ovary silky hairy, 14-18 mm long. Pod oblong, compressed, 80-150 x 25-35 mm, glabrous, 8-10-seeded. Seeds oval-oblong, brown or brown mottled black, hilum about half the length of the seed.
