Characteristics

Annual erect herb 0.5-2 m tall, strongly aromatic; stems 4-angled with small recurved prickles. Leaves petiolate; blade ovate to ovate-lanceolate, 30-80 x 10-30 mm, glabrous to sparingly pubescent, apex acute, base obtuse, margin serrate; petiole 10-35 mm long. Inflorescence terminal, spike-like, of densely placed many-flowered overlapping cymes; bracts leaf-like below, becoming smaller upwards; bracteoles numerous, linear, setose, 4 mm long, erect, giving the inflorescence a bristly appearance. Calyx densely glandular-hispid, enlarging to 6 mm long, mouth hirsute. Corolla whitish, 4-5 mm long.
