Cultivation

Released in 1993 by R.A. Hamilton, P.J. ito, and R.E. Paull. Sunset (HAES 72-12) is an inbred sister line of Sunrise, selected from a population of seedlings from Line 9 solo crossed with Kariya in 1961. This hermaphrodite line is precocious, has low bearing height averaging 80 cm from ground level, and low incidence of sterility or carpelloidy. Fruit are pyriform and slightly necked, weight 400 to 600 g, 12% to 17% soluble solids, and firmer than Sunrise. Skin has a tendency to freckle in warm weather. Fruit picked at color break take about 10 days to reach 70% yellow and 15 days to reach 100% yellow. Production is 49 to 100 t/ha/year. Somewhat resistant to anthracnose. Origin: Tree: Fruit:
