Origin: in Honolulu, Hawaii, by H. Y. Nakasone, Univ. of Hawaii. Introd. in 1970. Complex parentage involving Betty, Line 5, and Line 8. Selected in 1960; tested as line 77. Tree: bearing height 30-34 inches; vigorous; produces 90-120 lbs/tree/year; slightly tolerant to phytophthora root rot. Fruit: 20-30 oz; roundishpyriform; skin smooth, yellow when ripe; firm; flesh bright yellow, flavor mild, 12% to 16% soluble solids; firmness and shelf life superior to older cultivars; recommended for use as fresh fruit or for processing.
