Origin: by controlled cross (Odom × Evers) made by L.D. Romberg, U.S. Dept. of Agr.-Agr. Res. Serv., Brownwood, Texas. Cross made in 1944, first fruited in 1950, tested as 44-15-59 by Romberg and G.D. Madden. Released in 1972. Nut: oval elliptic with obtuse apex and rounded base; laterally compressed in cross section; 41 nuts/lb, 53% kernel; kernels wrinkled with very wide dorsal grooves and deep basal cleft. Protogynous, with midseason pollen shed and early to midseason receptivity. Very precocious and prolific with a severe tendency to alternate bear. Ripens in early midseason, over a week before Stuart. Susceptible to scab. Freeze injury to bearing trees in Oklahoma. Recommended (1990) in Arizona, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Tree: Fruit:
