Origin: as chance seedling in Calhoun County, Ill., by W.T. Osterman, Nebo, Ill. Discovered in 1959. Introd. in 1970. Plant patent 3158; issued 9 May 1972; assigned to Stark Bros. Nurseries & Orchards Co., Louisiana, Mo. Nut: oval elliptic with acute apex and rounded base; nuts often asymmetric; round in cross section; shell with ridges; kernels with flared dorsal grooves, deep secondary dorsal grooves.
