Characteristics

Shrub or small tree to 4 m; branchlets brownish-grey when dry; lenticels conspicuous. Leaves chartaceous, glabrous, very sparsely pellucid-striate or punctate when young or thin, elliptic-oblong, acute-acuminate; lamina mostly 6–9 cm long, 2.5–4.5 cm wide, entire; base 1 decurrent; secondary veins 7–10 pairs; petiole 4–8 mm long; stipules narrowly deltoid, 1.5–2 mm long, caducous. Flowers in fascicles of up to 6; pedicels puberulous, 2.5–3 mm long. Calyx puberulous; lobes broadly ovate, c. 1.3 mm long. Stamens usually 8; filaments glabrous, 1–1.2 mm long; staminodes pilose, 0.5–0.8 mm long. Ovary ovoid, glabrous; style very short; stigma cushion-shaped. Capsule somewhat 3–angled, acute, c. 8 mm long, dehiscing by 3 valves. Seeds several, ovoid-subglobose, c. 1.5 mm long; testa slightly tuberculate.
