Characteristics

Shrub or small tree; young stem glabrous or ± spreading-pubescent, glabrescent; first-year stem glabrous or shortly pubescent.. Leaves petiolate; petiole 2–4 mm. long, indumentum as on stem; blade ± ovate or rarely narrowly obovate, 2.5–4 × 1.5–3 cm., rounded to a truncate base or cuneate below to an acute base, rounded or rarely subacuminate to a truncate apex, margin ± shallowly serrate especially towards the apex or very rarely entire, glabrous above, glabrous or sparsely pubescent beneath, glabrescent.. Flowers 1 (–3) per inflorescence; pedicels up to 3.5 mm. long, densely appressed-puberulous, articulation median.. Calyx (4–) 5 (–6)-partite; tube 1.5 mm. long; lobes 4 mm. long, narrowly oblong-triangular, apex acute, densely appressed-pubescent externally, glabrous or very nearly so within.. Petals 5, laciniate above.. Stamens c. 20 (19–22), arising from margin of a very short disc, anthers introrse.. Ovary shortly and ± densely pilose and interspersed, especially towards the apex, with longer hairs, becoming more sparsely hirsute; style up to 2.5 mm. long, persistent; stigmas spreading.. Capsule (very immature) very broadly ovoid, 3 mm. long, ± regularly densely hirsute.
