Small tree, 7(-11 m) high; branchlets dark, hairy, brittle, bark dark grey, wrinkled. Leaves obovate to oblong, < 40 mm long, glossy dark green, hairless, midrib and lateral veins translucent-green, conspicuous on undersurface, base tapering, apex broadly tapering to rounded, notched, asymmetric, margins widely toothed; petioles 2-4 mm long. Flowers white to cream-coloured, solitary on short stalks, up to 5 mm long, inconspicuous. Flowering time Oct.-Dec. Fruit a capsule, ± 10 x 6 mm, sharply tipped with remains of old style and with persistent sepals around base. Seeds arillate.
