Flowers 1–5 (–8) per inflorescence; pedicels up to 4 mm., rarely 7 mm. long, articulate above the middle, densely puberulous.. Calyx 4–5 (–6)-partite; tube 1 mm. long; lobes 3.5–5 mm. long, narrowly oblong-triangular, apex acute, densely appressed-pubescent externally, glabrous or very nearly so within.. Leaves variable in size and shape, margins serrate; upper surface shining, glabrous, venation conspicuous; lower surface mat, sparsely appressed-pubescent, venation prominent; petioles 2-7 mm long. Stipules truncate to subrounded at base; caducous. Inflorescences 1-6-flowered, lax to ± congested. Flowers yellowish, greenish, cream-coloured; 4-6-merous; pedicels 2-9 mm long. Calyx pubescent outside, glabrous inside; tube and lobes ± ovate-lanceolate. Corolla: lobes 4-8 mm long, spathulate, laciniate above, glabrous. Stamens 15-20; anthers ± ellipsoid-oblong. Ovary ovoid, 3-or 4-locular; style longer than ovary. Flowering time Aug.-Apr. Fruit an ± ellipsoid capsule. Seeds dark brown, aril reddish.
