Characteristics

Tree to 9 m. tall; young stem sparsely pubescent.. Leaves petiolate; petiole 3–4 (–5) mm. long, appressed-pubescent; blade subcircular to elliptic, rarely narrowly elliptic, up to 4.6 (–7.5) × 3.2 (–4) cm., broadly tapering or rounded below to a subacute base, rounded above (rarely subcuneate) to an obtuse apex, margin usually entire (see Note), midrib longly appressed-pubescent beneath, otherwise glabrous, somewhat leathery.. Flowers 1–3 per inflorescence; pedicels up to 5 (–7) mm. long, spreading-pilose, articulate towards the apex.. Calyx 5-partite; tube 2 mm. long; lobes 5 mm. long, very narrowly ovate (almost lanceolate), apex acute, ± sparsely pubescent externally, glabrous within or merely minutely puberulous on the margin only and/or at the apex.. Petals 5, usually greenish-white (see Note).. Stamens c. 20, inserted on the margin of an inconspicuous disc.. Ovary half-inferior, 3–4-celled, longly and densely white-pilose; style 2 mm. long, persistent; stigmas flattened.. Capsule not seen.
