Characteristics

Trees. Branchlets shortly densely hairy, lenticellate. Leaves paripinnate; leaflets alternate or subopposite, lamina entire. Inflorescence axillary, panicle-like, usually polygamo-monoecious; bracts small, ovate. Flowers small, regular. Calyx shortly cupular, 5-partite, lobes ovate, subvalvate, coriaceous. Petals 5, shortly clawed, with 2 acute, inflexed, hairy, crestless scales. Disc cupular. Stamens 8, filaments subulate, densely villous. Ovary 2-locular, locule 1-seeded; style short, stigma 2-lobed. Fruit large, drupaceous, 2-locular, septa thin or none; pericarp fleshy, rugose, ±crustaceous, indehiscent. Seed solitary in each locule, large, chestnut-like, brown, exarillate.
