Characteristics

Native to Malay Is., has been cultivated in K4, Muguga Pudden 86! & Dyson 695!, and T3, Lushoto, Ngoundai 254!, Procter 3048! & Semsei 4190!. Persistent stems with 9–11 ribs, scale-leaves with free part 1.5–2.5 mm. long, 0.3–0.4 mm. wide, reflexed. Deciduous branchlets 0.6–0.9 mm. diameter, with 9 very prominent but closely-set ribs; free part of scale leaves 0.5–0.6 mm. long, 0.2–0.25 mm. wide, colour as C. cunninghamiana. ♂ inflorescence 1.3–1.5 mm. in diameter, whorls close-set, flowers 8–9 per whorl, bracts coloured as leaves, free part 0.6–0.9 mm.. Infructescence 6–10 mm. long, 9–11 mm. wide, spherical or elongated or depressed-ovoid; cells 9–11 per whorl separated by gap of 0.6–1 mm.; valves with only apical 1 mm. or less free, backs hardly visible often with 1–2 longitudinal ridges; samaras light brown.. Environment

Grows on the slopes of volcanoes at altitudes of 1,500-3,100 metres, but also at lower altitudes in dry places. It is a pioneer species of deforested land such as rocky slopes and undisturbed areas.
