Characteristics

In erect bunches 15-20 cm high, from a stout prostrate woody stem, up to 8 mm diam. Leaves slender terete but often flattened at the tip, glabrous, the lower 3-5 cm long, the upper shorter. Umbels all alike, 3-or 4-rayed: rays with male flowers 1-1.5 cm long, that with the fruit 2-4 mm long. Male flowers in groups of 2 or 3. Petals glabrous, red or purplish. Fruit brown or purple, oblong, parallel-sided, about 4 mm long and 2-5 mm wide, the stylopodium forming two purple cones almost 1 mm high: mericarps with prominent straight ridges. Bracts acuminate, partly scarious, not over half the length of the fruit.
