Characteristics

Tall evergreen dioecious tree. Leaves with lateral nerves interarching some way from margin; tertiary venation faint, reticulate. Flowers sessile in large heads arranged in panicles; bracts present; bracteoles absent. Male with perianth subglobose, 3–4(–5 fide Warburg)-fid; stamens with filaments united into a long exserted column; anthers 3–4(–5 fide Warburg), adnate to the column, shorter than the basal part. Female perianth unknown. Fruit large; pericarp thick and fleshy; seed ovoid or ovoid-oblong, with woody testa; endosperm not ruminate, but fatty and with some starch; aril laciniate; cotyledons connate at the base, suberect.
