Species

Bryophytes > Jungermanniales > Cephaloziellaceae > Cephaloziella

Characteristics

Dioicous, small and gracile, green, on soil. Stem up to 6 mm long and 60 µ in diameter, cortical cells 12-18 x 30-40 µ. Leaves rather distant, bilobed to 2/3-3/4, based diverging 45-90° from the stem, lobes triangular, the dorsal lobe frequently longer, sparsely dentate by protruding cells, marginal cells 10-12 µ, cells in the centre 12-18 x 20 µ, in the mid line of the lobes, especially in the dorsal lobe, often long cell, 10 x 30-34 µ. Sinus acute, up to 90°. Cuticle smooth or with few fine papillae. Amphigastria small, generally subulate. Female bracts 2-3 pairs, free, of the same shape as the leaves but larger. Perianth long and narrow, 3-plicate, mouth crenated by protruding cells, 20-60 µ long, green or decolorized. Spores 6-9 µ, pale brown, with chloroplasts in the centre, cuticle smooth. Elaters 4-8 µ broad, yellow-brown. Capsule wall light brown, with semicircular thickenings, cells 10-12 x 30 µ.
