Characteristics

Perennial herb, taproot becoming woody, up to c. 8 mm diam. at crown, stems many from crown, loosely branched, branches c. 130-310 mm long, either prostrate and rooting from lower nodes, or decumbent to erect eventually forming a twiggy shrublet, terete to weakly ridged by prominent vascular strands, glandular-puberulous, hairs up to 0.1-0.2 mm long, leafy, often with axillary leaf tufts. Leaves opposite, largest primary ones c. 10-20 x 3-8 mm, more or less oblanceolate, occasionally upper ± linear, tapering to a short petiolar part, apex acute or subacute, margins either entire or with 1-4 pairs of small teeth, usually revolute, both surfaces hairy as stems, glistening glands as well particularly on lower surface. Flowers in small (up to c. 20 flowers) racemes terminating the twiglets and producing ± corymbose panicles. Bracts (lowermost) c. 2-10 x 1-2 mm, linear or lanceolate, acute or subacute, entire or with 1 or 2 pairs of teeth. Pedicels (lowermost) 6-15 mm long. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.7-1(-2)mm long, lobes 1.8-5 x 0.7-1 mm, glandular-puberulous with coarser hairs c. 0.2-0.8 mm long, glistening glands as well. Corolla tube 4.7-8.5 x 3.5-5 mm in throat, broadly funnel-shaped, limb almost regular, 8-16 mm across, posticous lobes 2.7-5.5 x 1.6-5 mm, anticous lobe 2.8-6.3 x 1.5-6.2 mm, all oblong-orbicular, mauve-pink to violet-blue, tube orange, glandular-puberulous outside, glistening glands as well, clavate hairs inside in 5 longitudinal bands. Stamens 4, all exserted, anthers 0.8-1.3 mm long, posticous filaments 1.3-2.5 mm long, anticous ones 2.3-4 mm. Stigma 1-2.5 mm long, exserted. Style 3-7 mm long. Ovary 1.2-1.8 x 0.8-1 mm, glistening glands on sutures, sometimes very few. Capsules 3-5.5 x 2-3 mm. Seeds (few seen) c. 0.5 x 0.4 mm, pallid. Flowers can be found in any month.
