Characteristics

Perennial, virgately branched from base, forming a small shrublet, stems up to 150-400 mm long, erect, decumbent or semiprostrate, terete, glandular-puberulous but these hairs masked by whitish woolly-cobwebby hairs, leafy. Leaves opposite, largest c. 15-20 x 2-3 mm, narrowly elliptic or linear, acute, base slightly narrowed, clasping, connate, margins entire or with a few tiny teeth, both surfaces woolly-cobwebby. Flowers in short terminal racemes, mostly alternate. Bracts (lowermost) c. 2.5-6 x 1-2 mm, lanceolate, glandular-puberulous, often with cobwebby hairs as well. Pedicels (lowermost) 4-12 mm long, glandular-puberulous. Calyx distinctly bilabiate, tube 0.5-0.7 mm long, posticous lobes c. 2.7-3 x 0.4-0.8 mm, anticous lobes slightly broader, glandular-puberulous, some longer hairs as well, up to 0.25-0.6 mm. Corolla tube c. 5-5.5 x 3.2-3.7 mm in throat, broadly funnel-shaped, limb c. 7-8 mm across, posticous lobes 2.5-3 x 1.8-2.1 mm, anticous lobe 3 x 2-2.5 mm, all elliptic, pale mauve, tube yellow, pubescent outside, hairs up to c. 0.2-0.3 mm long, some glistening glands as well, inside well bearded with clavate hairs all round throat. Stamens 4, all exserted, anticous filaments c. 2.2-3.7 mm long, posticous filaments 1.6-2 mm, anthers 0.8-1.1 mm long. Stigma 1.1-2 mm long, exserted. Style 4-5 mm long. Ovary 1-1.3 x 0.7-1 mm, a few glistening glands on sutures. Capsules 2.5-3 x 2-2.5 mm. Seeds c. 0.8-1 x 0.4 mm, grey-blue. Flowering and fruiting in September, January and February.
