Characteristics

Dwarf shrublet or suffrutex, c. 150-250 mm tall or sometimes straggling to c. 310 mm, branches erect or decumbent, terete or very weakly ribbed, glandular-pubescent with delicate hairs up to 0.4-1 mm long, leafy at least on upper parts, brachyblasts present. Leaves opposite, occasionally alternate upwards, largest primary leaves c. 5-18 x 1-1.5 mm, linear, obtuse, base clasping, connate, margins strongly revolute, both surfaces glandular-pubescent as stems. Flowers solitary in the upper leaf-axils forming short racemes or occasionally narrow panicles, old inflorescences sometimes overtopped by fresh growth. Bracts, when present, very small, c. 1-2 x 0.1-0.3 mm, immediately below calyx. Pedicels (lowermost) 2-14 mm long. Calyx bilabiate, tube 1-1.5 mm long, posticous lobes 3-5 x 0.7-0.8 mm, anticous lobes slightly broader, glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.4-1.2 mm long. Corolla tube 10.5-12.5 x 2.5-3.5 mm across throat, funnel-shaped, limb nearly regular, 8-11 mm across, posticous lobes 3-3.2 x 1.6-2.8 mm, anticous lobe 3-4 x 2.2-2.8 mm, all oblong-elliptic, mauve, throat yellow, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to 0.2-0.3 mm long, inside bearded with longitudinal bands of clavate hairs. Stamens 4, anthers 1-1.4 mm long, anticous pair exserted, filaments 2.2-3 mm long, posticous pair included, filaments 1.4-1.5 mm long. Stigma 2-4 mm long, exserted. Style 7.5-10.5 mm long. Ovary 1.5-2 x 0.8-1.2 mm, few glistening glands on sutures. Capsules 3-5 x 1.8-2.8 mm. Seeds not seen.
