Perennial herb up to 1 m tall, main stems up to 3-4 mm in diam., sometimes simple below, usually branched or several-stemmed from the base, branching above, erect, decumbent or straggling, and then sometimes rooting at the nodes, pubescent, hairs up to 0.3-1 mm long, either all gland-tipped or mixed with eglandular hairs, leafy. Leaves opposite (bracts occasionally alternate on ultimate twiglets), largest blades 10-40 x 10-30 mm, ovate or occasionally elliptic abruptly contracted into a petiolar part c. 4-9 mm long (proportion of blade to petiole c. 3-9:1), apex acute to obtuse, margins with c. 5-16 pairs of teeth, both surfaces glandular pubescent as stems, glistening glands as well. Flowers ultimately innumerable, arranged in large panicles, occasionally the lowermost flowers solitary in the axil of a leaf, mostly in 3-flowered cymules, or mixtures of racemes and cymes, the main branches of the panicle always opposite, the flowers on the ultimate twiglets sometimes alternate and subtended by small bracts rather than leaves. Pedicels (longest) c. 4-10 mm. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.7-2.5 mm long, posticous lobes 1.5-3.5 x 0.4-1 mm, anticous lobes slightly broader, glandular-puberulous together with longer hairs up to 0.3-0.8 mm long. Corolla tube 6-11 x 2.2-3.8 mm in throat, funnel-shaped, limb nearly regular, 8-12 mm across, posticous lobes 2.8-5 x 1.7-3.2 mm, anticous lobe 2.5-5 x 1.5-3 mm, all elliptic, white or creamy-white to shades of mauve, tube yellow, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to 0.15-0.3 mm long, glistening glands as well, inside either bearded with clavate hairs or subglabrous to glabrous. Stamens 4, anticous pair exserted, filaments 2.2-3.5 mm long, posticous pair included, filaments 1-2 mm long, anthers 0.8-1.2 mm long. Stigma 0.5-2 mm long, exserted. Style 5-9 mm long. Ovary 1.2-1.8 x 0.6-lmm, glistening glands either confined to sutures or sometimes a few on top of ovary and on base of style. Capsules 2.6-5 x 1.5-3 mm. Seeds 0.5-1 x 0.25-0.5 mm, pallid.
