Characteristics

Sprawling perennial herb, rootstock woody, up to c. 10 mm diam., branches eventually many from the crown, c. 200-350 mm long, soon laxly branched, glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.4-1 mm long, leafy. Leaves opposite, largest blades c. 16-25 x 14-22 mm, ovate abruptly contracted to a petiolar part c. 6-9 mm long (c. 1/3 to 1/4 as long as blade), apex acute, margins serrate, both surfaces glandular-pubescent, hairs up to 0.5-0.6 mm long, many glistening glands as well. Flowers solitary in axils of leaves. Pedicels (lowermost) c. 8-30 mm long. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube c. 0.7 mm long, lobes 5-7, 2.4-5 x 0.4-0.7 mm, villous, hairs up to 0.25-0.6 mm long, many gland-tipped, glistening glands all over as well. Corolla tube 6-10 x 3-4.2 mm in throat, funnel-shaped, limb almost regular, 7-10 mm across, posticous lobes 2.3-3.3 x 2-3.3 mm, anticous lobe 2.3-4 x 2-4 mm, all oblong-orbicular, mauve, tube orange, glandular-pubescent, hairs 0.1-0.4 mm long, glistening glands as well, bearded inside with 5 longitudinal bands of clavate hairs. Stamens 4, anticous pair exserted, filaments 1.8-3 mm long, posticous pair in throat, filaments 0.8-1.5 mm long, anthers 0.8-1 mm long. Stigma 0.8-1.5 mm long, exserted. Style c. 4-7 mm. Ovary 1-1.2 x 0.7-1 mm, glistening glands all over. Capsules c. 3-5 x 2.5-3 mm, glistening glands persistent. Seeds c. 0.8 x 0.6-0.8 mm, amber-coloured. Flowering and fruiting in January, March and July.
