Characteristics

Twiggy shrublet, branches spreading, up to 150-600 mm long, terete, glandular-puberulous, hairs up to c. 0.1 mm long, closely leafy, often with axillary leaf tufts. Leaves opposite, bases connate, primary leaves 5-28 x 1.8-9 mm, elliptic, oblanceolate or lanceolate, shortly petiolate, apex obtuse to subacute, base cuneate, margins entire or with up to 5 pairs of small teeth, sometimes revolute, glistening glands particularly on lower surface, otherwise both surfaces glabrous or minutely and sparsely glandular-puberulous. Flowers solitary in the upper leaf axils of every twiglet, forming leafy racemes or narrow panicles. Pedicels up to 6-12 mm long, filiform. Calyx obscurely bilabiate, tube 0.5-1 mm long, lobes 2.2-4 x 0.2-0.8 mm, linear-lanceolate, glandular-puberulous mainly on the margins, hairs up to 0.1-0.15 mm long. Corolla tube 8-11 x 2.5-3 mm in throat, narrowly funnel-shaped, limb almost regular, 7-14 mm across, posticous lobes 2.5-5 x 1.5-3 mm, anticous lobe 2.8-6 x 1.8-3 mm, all oblong, white or rarely pale mauve, tube yellow/orange at least in the throat, glandular-puberulous outside, hairs up to 0.1 mm long, a few glistening glands as well, clavate hairs inside throat arranged in 5 longitudinal bands. Stamens 4, anticous pair shortly exserted, filaments 2-3 mm long, posticous pair included, filaments 1-1.75 mm long, anthers 0.75-1 mm long. Stigma 1-1.5 mm long, shortly exserted. Style 6-9 mm long. Ovary 1-1.5 x 0.6-1 mm, glabrous or with a few glistening glands on the sutures. Capsules 3.5-5 x 2-2.5 mm. Seeds c. 1 x 0.4 mm, pallid or dull blue-grey. Flowering has been recorded in all months.
